Armin van Buuren Takes Number One Spot on Top 100 DJs List

The Dutch DJ tops DJMag's list for the second year.

Enjoying a prolific year since his selection for the top spot last year, Armin van Buuren has not slowed down a bit, keeping up with touring, producing his popular "A State of Trance" radio show, and collaborating with an impressive lineup of artists, including Within Temptation's Sharon den Adel. One unresearched comment by DJMag's James Kendall, however, needs correction: Within Temptation is not the European answer to Evanescence. It is OK to write about DJs and dance music, but it might be beneficial to check music history and facts before venturing into discussing other genres. Interesting, I wrote about the exact misconception a while ago.

Coming in second is Tiësto. While very impressive and talented as well, I was surprised reading his Computer Music interview, in which he barely revealed any of his production techniques. I believe that talent, compositional skills and imagination have more to do with a good piece of music than secret technological wizardry does. In addition, he is familiar enough with the audience of Computer Music, who cherish 'geeky' tech tips and tricks. Tiësto does not need to hide his craft behind a veil of secrecy; he has plenty of talent to be respected as an artist.

At number three is Paul van Dyk, whose political and chairty involvement have earned him respect outside the music world as well.

Check out the list for the whole lineup.
