A millennia-old biological necessity of living beings is approached from the high-tech engineering angle
There is usually absolutely no thought behind paying our regular respects to the porcelain god (as some so mightily name the toilet). It is all about business; sort of a hit (well, in this case drop) and run affair. There is not much branding involved, as seldom will you find anyone who will get into a discussion about various toilet seat brands, models, or performance as some would do about, let's say, automobiles. Even the rich and famous are rather concerned about comfort and cleanliness, not the usually unnoticed features or esoteric design process of their "throne". Apparently, we live in a world where behind the scenes there are dedicated groups of scientists who see our daily pilgrimage to the bathroom as an opportunity to apply the latest in science, physics, engineering, hydrodynamics, and even electronics. It seems even finding the perfect testing substitute for human waste is a mixing project on its own, involving exotic Eastern foods. Wired explores the mysteries of high-tech toilet design.
